Volume (24h)Splinterlands is a play-to-earn blockchain card game where players can collect NFT cards on the Binance Smart Chain network. The game puts emphasis on the collectible nature of card games while retaining the resale value of a physical card game and combining it with the convenience and speed of a digital one. It uses Splintershards as in-game currency, players can buy and trade cards with it.
The cards are divided into four rarities where each has a different level and circulation cap; Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Every card has various stats like attack (melee, ranged, magic), speed, armor, and health. Splinters are the elements that are attached to each card; fire, earth, water, life, death, dragon, and neutral (mercenaries). Gold cards are the premium versions of regular ones, they don’t possess any advantages in terms of gameplay, but they are visually different looking and can be used in occurrences such as gold foil only events.
There are more than 500 cards to collect and many more unique abilities to explore. Players can combine cards to gain levels, trade or sell their cards, convert them to coins, or even rent their cards to other players.
There are two tokens in the game; Splintershards (SPS) and Dark Energy Crystals (DEC). DEC tokens are earned from ranked battles. Players can also convert their unused cards in their collection to earn DEC. DEC can be used to buy in-game items or trading cards from other players at the marketplace. SPS acts as a governance token that allows voting and it can be staked.

Splinterlands is one of the most popular games in its genre. The game is free-to-play but in order to unlock play-to-earn features, you need to invest money.
You can access the game from the game website. When you click on the Play Now button at the main menu, the game will ask you to connect your wallet. Once that is done, you will be prompted to complete a tutorial.
Purchasing the Summoner’s Spellbook should be your first investment.
If you only like to play and experience the game, it is free to do so, but you won’t be earning any money. In order to access play-to-earn aspects of the game, you’ll want to purchase the Summoner’s Spellbook for 10$. It unlocks daily quests, seasonal rewards, and the ability to earn Dark Energy Crystals (DEC).
DEC is the main in-game token for Splinterlands.
You can buy and sell cards from the marketplace at the game’s website. NFT cards are available at other marketplaces too, but make sure they are legitimate.
The battle tab is where you track your progress and go into battle.
You collect cards, each with different stats and abilities, and create decks to battle other players. There are two types of cards; Summoners and Monsters. Every time you enter a battle, you have to form your deck that consists of a summoner and six monsters. Summoner cards have abilities and effects such as giving bonus health, armor, or damage which influence monsters on the battlefield.
There are six different elements called “Splinters” in the game. Each card can belong to Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death, or Dragon elements. Every deck you choose before the battle must consist of cards from one element. You cannot combine cards from different elements in a deck.
Each card has different unique qualities to them.
There are four different card rarities in the game that are represented by colors in the middle of the card. The cards can be common (grey), rare (blue), epic (purple), and legendary (gold).
Monsters have damage, speed, armor, and health stats that are represented in the middle of the card. Cards cost mana to use in a battle. You will need to form your deck according to the total mana cap of each battle. It is randomized and determined at the start of every battle.
The attack power indicates how much damage your monster will do per turn to an enemy.
There are three types of attacks. Melee attackers are performed by monsters in the middle of the battlefield. Ranged and magic attackers can attack from the backline. Magic users' attacks ignore the enemy's armor and directly damage the enemy's health. The speed stat determines the order your monsters attack. The armor and health stats work in combination with each other, each non-magic attack decreases the monster’s armor before its health. If a monster has 4 health and 2 armor points, the incoming 6 damage attack won’t kill it. It will only destroy its armor. The damage won’t bleed from armor to the health of a monster and the armor must be destroyed first.
The experience bar under the name of a card represents the level of a card. You can level up cards by merging duplicates. Higher-level cards will have different abilities and more stats.
The majority of cards can have abilities listed at the bottom of each one. You can hover over and see which ability a card has.

| Enrage | Has increased Melee attack and Speed when damaged. |
| Flying | Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability. |

| Phase | Magic attacks can miss this Monster (using the same hit/miss calculation as for Melee and Ranged attacks). |

You can build a deck for each Splinter.
There are various gameplay elements that make each battle unique. Firstly, the mana cap is randomized, it acts as a power limit for each battle. The playable Splinters are also limited for certain battles, you can’t choose a certain element for some ranked battles, unfortunately this is decided randomly when you enter a battle. The rulesets determine how you are going to strategize each battle.

Once you have chosen your summoner and your monsters and your deck is ready, the match will start. The battles are automated, monsters will do all the fighting. You should watch and analyze your deck to make changes for upcoming battles. They stay in order and if the monster at the middle of the board dies, the next card in line takes its spot. I recommend putting melee damage dealers first, tanks second, and ranged attackers last. This is a standard tip though, you can fine-tune your monsters’ positionings for maximum efficiency in each battle.
The backline and the middle of the board act differently.
Splinterlands is on the Hive blockchain network. The game will give you a Hive account when you purchase the Summoner’s Spellbook.
The marketplace features all types and rarities of cards.
You need to reach Bronze Two league to start earning Dark Energy Crystals (DEC). This means you need to reach power level 1000 with your cards. You can rent cards to get to this level if you don’t want to invest a lot of money to buy them.
After you have fulfilled these requirements, you can earn DEC from winning ranked battles, participating in tournaments, completing daily quests, seasonal rewards, selling cards, and burning cards.
Winning consecutive ranked battles and climbing higher in ranked leagues will increase your DEC rewards.
There is an Energy Capture Rate that you can view at the top right corner of the game that affects the amount of DEC you gain from winnings. The lower the rate, the lower the rewards will be. It decreases every time you play a ranked battle and recovers automatically throughout the day.
I bought the Summoner’s Spellbook and created my account but I wasn’t able to reach Bronze Two league in my limited play time of three days. By investing a little more and renting cards, I’m sure I will be able to reach there and start earning. My games were very enjoyable since Splinterlands differs from other card battle games, and it allows for a more strategic and flexible approach.
Splinterlands is a fun card game if you love auto-battlers where you can strategize passively. You can earn a considerable amount if you play daily, there are a lot of cards and decks to try out. I hope you enjoyed the guide, take care!
